Damp proof course & rising damp?

A Damp Proof Course is a barrier that is installed at the lower level of the wall of a building to prevent water from rising from ground level. This barrier, effectively stops, what is known as, rising damp.

Mild cases of rising damp may only get spotted following a building survey, in more serious cases visible damp patches, along with hygroscopic salts can be seen on the surface of the walls.

Damp or lifting plaster
A tide line on the walls
Damp or stained skirting boards
Brown/yellow stains on the walls
Furry, raised, powdery residue on plaster

Injecting damp proof course

Fitting a damp proof course requires a number of steps for permanent elimination. Although the steps are fairly standard, each survey and analysis will result in a thorough plan, which may include:

Removal of any damp plaster
Adding a salt neutraliser to walls to dissolve all salts
Chemical injections to repair the damp proof course
Applying a waterproof interior render
Finishing the walls with a smooth skim coat plaster

Really impressed with Aiden's finishing plastering on day 2 who was meticulous in checking over his work several times to ensure a perfect finish.
